Case Study: Flexible Coating Process
Yields Product Innovation
|
|
|
Strategic
Innovators are often presented with seemingly difficult innovation
challenges. For example, a singular focus on understanding of how to make
a high quality, high consistency product, can blind the innovator to
opportunities to innovate around that product line. But innovations are
often constrained by production requirements and technologies that are
standard to an industry, reducing the production flexibility that can
lead to novel new products.
For a Global
2000 producer of food products, the mission was to expand the
production flexibility of a coating process, while ensuring consistent,
high quality production of the current product line. Product Genesis
applied our proven Technology Scan methodology, a framework that
reaches out beyond industry boundaries to identify proven technology that
may be repurposed to a particular challenge. The result was
identification of a well-qualified technology (yet revolutionary to the
food processing industry) that could was both consistent and flexible,
enabling the client to product both current and novel new products in the
same space and labor constrained manufacturing environment.
